How to claim the prize?
The process of claiming a winning amount has been made really easy.
- $600- an amount which is less than $600 can be claimed easily at any office of charitable games agent or at charitable Prize center
- More than $600 but up to $ 5000: it can be claimed at the office of a charitable game agent or from any charitable Prize center
- Prize above $5000:.it has to be claimed at charitable Prize center

When can I claim tickets or what is the effective period?
Effective period to claim the tickets is maxed 180 days from the date on which ticket has been drawn. It is applicable to all the games offered by D.C lottery.
In case one goes for the option of mail while claiming the ticket, he/she has to send his/her driving license’s copy or passport along with the ticket to the office of charitable game prize center.
What will happen to my earnings in case of my demise?
When you are earning in billions, this question may sound legitimate. In case of demise, the lottery will be eligible to the nominee whom the winner has selected.
What happens to the unclaimed prizes?
Any prize which has not claimed within 180 days are automatically transferred to the general fund of Columbia district to help the state government in investing in public education etc.
Do I have to pay taxes?
There are four type of taxes:
- If you have won the amount of more than $5000, then you have to pay the federal tax of about 24 %. These rates can be changed also depending on the regulations of internal revenue services
- In case the prize money is more than $5000, tax is levied on the basis of DC tax and revenue regulations
- If you are a no DC resident and you have earned the amount more than $5000, tax would be levied as per Federal state and local state depending on what the requirements are of the state resident jurisdiction
- If you are a foreigner, then 40% of the amount is deducted as the tax amount
What happens if I have lost the winning tickets?
DC Lottery does not take the responsibility of any lost or theft. Therefore it is advised that when a person buys a ticket, he/she should immediately write his name at the back of the ticket. If it is not signed, the person who has the ticket can initiate the claim request.
