Where the revenue goes?
Since 40 years, Maine Lottery has managed to pay the amount of $2.2 Billion just as the prize money with the minimum amount as low as 50 cents to as high as $9.1 million.
$335 million of the amount has been paid to sales commission so as to boost the consistency in generating year-round revenue.
It also transfers money to the State Government’s fund in order to benefit the citizen of Maine by aiding education, health services and many other additional programs. It also provides a part of the proceeds to the Outdoor Heritage Funds which has helped in conserving the wildlife.
How to Claim a prize?
- Prize money less than $600, can be claimed at any local agent/retailer’s location
It can be claimed in any of the below three ways:
- In person: One can visit the Lottery Office which is situated in Hallowell, Maine in person to claim his/her prize. He has to provide any government id proof.
- By Mail or courier: One can mail the filled claim form along with the ticket (with details filled in the back) to the Lottery Office.
- Lottery Agent location: One can visit any Lottery agent who sells the lottery tickets who will then further validate the winning ticket and will present the claim receipt. Later on, one can follow any of the above two steps to claim for the prize money
How can I become a retailer?
One has to fit in any of the below criteria in order to become the retailer of the ticket:
- Cannot be in a business, where any person is exclusively involved in the selling of lottery tickets
- Must have attained minimum age of 18 years
- Must have an insurance coverage any theft or fire etc
- Must display all the advertisement and information materials
- Must meet the demographics, for example, the population is one such parameter
- Must be easily accessible to the public
Once an individual has been selected as the retailer, he has to abide by the below regulations:
- Must have an account which makes electronic transfer feasible
- Must maintain a level of sales for almost 6 months
- Has to pay the non-refundable fees of $50 along with the application
